On dated January 10, 2023, the honorable Secretary of Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Amir Sultan Tareen inaugurated the Mobile Lab facility at Khyber Medical University (KMU). The subject mobile laboratory was donated by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and received by the KMU through the National Institute of Health (NIH) and Ministry of Health KP to strengthen the in-country diagnostic capacity for COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.

BSL-2 Mobile lab is a germ-free Van Laboratory having analytical and bio-containment equipment in a compact and agile platform. The lab is purpose-built for the surveillance of infectious diseases through high-tech testing of Real-time PCR and ELISA. This Lab will provide quick access to remote locations as well as easy maneuverability in urban areas and have the capability to accommodate a small team of personnel enabling them to safely respond to outbreaks very quickly.

The honorable Secretary of Health KP expressed his views that this BSL-2 mobile lab will add a major impact on the surveillance of all infectious diseases including COVID-19. He appreciated the efforts of VC KMU Professor Dr. Zia ul Haq, DG Health Dr. Shaheen Afridi, Director PHRL Dr. Yasar Yousafzai, Incharge Mobile lab Dr. Ihsanullah and the administration team for making it possible to function this facility for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
