After being nominated as an expert from KP for the training on SARs-CoV-2/ COVID-19 samples handling and diagnostics back in February 2020, I gladly accepted to serve my people during the pandemic under the umbrella of the national leading reference laboratory, the PHRL-KMU, KP. We work as a team, day and night under the guidance of Director PHRL progressively expanding the team into many by incorporating skilled, qualified, and professional personnel. This helped in uplifting testing capacity from a few to many hundreds daily, acquiring variant analysis, sequencing (targeted & whole), and an excellent interactive learning environment. The expansions continued and are going on to various infectious diseases diagnostics and specialized labs like Dengue, Salmonella, and more.
In turn, everyone gained both technical and professional maturation that led to a steep carrier growth. Many of our colleagues are currently serving in well-deserved technical and academic positions due to their carrier bolstering at PHRL. A medical college hired me dully recognizing the PHRL engrafted professionalism soon after I defended my doctoral thesis. I am currently serving the Jinnah Medical College Peshawar as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Research Cell. I hold the Director status due to various research activities carried out at PHRL ranging from drafting to reviewing official and scientific documents.
It was a bloodcurdling but fascinating and encouraging experience that gave us a remarkable identity thus guiding toward a better destination. I would say “Great things never come from comfort zones”
